5. The Space Needle

Visiting the Space Needle is a no-brainer. It’s been a top destination in Seattle since it was built for the 1962 World's Fair. A visit on a clear day will yield views of Mount Rainer towering over Seattle’s skyscrapers. For the full World’s Fair experience arrive via the Seattle Center Monorail.

4. Chihuly Garden and Glass

Chihuly Garden and Glass is unique. People have told me that they feel Chihuly’s work is tacky at best. I’m not going to argue that. The pure size and girth of the sculptures and the way the museum’s architecture complements the work and makes it worthy of two hours of your day.  For me, Chihuly’s work shines in the outdoor garden space.

3. Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park’s Trail to Treasure

An approximately 18-block circle historic tour of the Pioneer Square area.  Start at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park by asking for a free map. Follow the route for quick blurbs of gold rush history. The route also gives you the opportunity to shop at the Square’s unique stores.

2. Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and the Fish Ladder

More boats travel through the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks than any other locks in the country. It’s simply fascinating to sit for a bit and watch the engineering marvel at work.  Don’t forget to head underground to see the fish ladder an important addition to the locks that allows salmon and other native fish to swim upstream between the Puget Sound and Lake Washington.

1. Coffee

Coffee is part of the culture in Seattle. There’s no shortage of great roasters in the area. Pick one and go in.  If you don’t mind the line, there’s no shame in visiting the original Starbucks located in Pike Place Market. If you’re missing your furry friend back home visit Meowtropolitan. It’s Seattle’s first cat cafe. For $10 you get a cup of coffee and fifty minutes in the cat room.
