Temple Street Night Market Hours
The Temple Street Night Market is a nightly staple in Hong Kong. Starting before dusk, local vendors begin their arduous ritual of building canopies, setting up tables, and spreading out their goods into tightly packed displays. As night falls the street closes to traffic and comes alive with a combination of tourists and locals weaving through sweaty narrow passageways.
The best time to visit the market is nightly between 6 pm and 10 pm. Bring cash in small bills and be ready to haggle prices, it is expected.
Temple Street Night Market Location
The market is located in the Yau Ma Tei district of Hong Kong and is easily reached by subway with access via the Jordan Station on the Tsuen Wan line (Look for the exit A). It’s also a short walk from the ferry terminals.
The main market covers seven blocks of Temple Street between Jordan Road and Kansu Street. Vendors sprawl out into the adjoining cross streets and alleys beyond Temple Street. Behind the tightly packed tents keep in mind that the traditional sidewalk shops are also open.
What To Buy at Temple Street Night Market
Sometimes also referred to as the Men’s Market, the vendors sell a lot of men’s clothing. Beyond clothing, there is really no limit to what you might discover in the market. There’s everything; electronics, toys, kitchenware, original art, and souvenirs of all kinds.
We’re typically not big buyers of stuff when we travel. Not because we have some sort of preachy philosophy about filling our lives with experiences instead of things but more because we have a small city apartment and nowhere to go with it all. For some reason though, we went crazy at this market. We bought some amazing rice bowls that we use weekly, a huge painted canvas depicting a rainy Hong Kong scene, plus loads of gifts for our loved ones back home.
Temple Street Night Market Street Food
If you’re hungry, exploring the street food on the outskirts of the market will bring you much joy. The closed streets fill with stools and tables fight your way to a seat and order off the menu for some amazing local cuisine.
