The museum has spread from its main building (a former mattress factory) into adjacent buildings and homes. The diverse gallery spaces add to the museum's allure. One of the best ways to see Pittsburgh's stunning cityscape is by taking a ride up one of the historic funiculars that climb the hillside. The Duquesne Incline, built in 1877, offers breathtaking views of downtown Pittsburgh and its surrounding neighborhoods. Access to the incline is easy from Station Square, a shopping, nightlife, and dining hot spot located riverside. Slightly less easy to get to, but worth the extra trouble, The Monongahela Incline has superior views and fewer crowds.
Whichever incline you choose, be sure to spend some time walking along the top of Mt. Washington. The hilltop views of the three rivers around the city skyline are particularly fantastic at sunset or at night.
