Venice to Murano Day Trip: (Jump To)

This day trip pairs perfectly with our day trip to Burano.

After a fully packed 24 hours in Venice, we decided to take a day trip to the Island of Murano. The island is home to some of the finest glass art studios and working artists in the world.

Largely a tourist hotspot the small island can get a little bit crowded during peak season and weekends. If you can wake up early or stay a little bit later the crowds will be much more manageable.

How To Get To Murano From Venice

Getting there from Venice is extremely easy. A one-way ticket on the local public transportation boat (the Vaporetto) is just €9. A full-day pass with unlimited rides will set you back €25.

Boat to Morano - Venice - Italy

The ferry boats leave from the dock across from the main Venice train station. There may be less of a wait if you catch the ferry from one of the stations on the east of the island. The walk from the train station to the eastern docks will take about 25 minutes.

The boat ride to Murano from near the train station will take about 45 minutes, and the journey from the eastern docks will take about 15.

What To See in Murano

When you arrive in Murano follow the canal to see all the best shops and glass art displays. We spent about two hours exploring the shops on the island.

Glass Shop - Venice - Italy

If you’re interested in seeing a glass-blowing demonstration we suggest booking something in advance. We tried to find one for free but did not find anything.

While walking along the canal, be sure to step into the Basilica dei Santi Maria e Donato. The beautiful tile mosaic art floor dates to the 1100s. The 500 square meter floor is made of various precious stones and mainly contains geometric designs representing Christian religious symbolism. There are also a few animals. There is also a folklore claim that the bones of a slain dragon lie inside the church. Behind the altar, some of the alleged rib bones of the dragon are hanging on a wire.
