How To Get To The City Center From the Kotor, Montenegro Port
Most cruise ships visiting Kotor will have to tender passengers to the port. Tendering is a fancy term for taking a smaller boat from your cruise ship to a dock on shore. This short trip is always complimentary.
Your tender will drop you within walking distance of the city center. After docking, you’ll find yourself a mere 10-minute walk away from the heart of Kotor. Simply follow the pedestrian-friendly waterfront path and pedestrian tunnel. As you approach the Old Town, you’ll see one of three historic gate entrances.
How To Get Around Kotor, Montenegro
Kotor’s Old Town is best explored on foot. Its compact size and pedestrian-only streets make walking the most convenient mode of transportation. Public buses are available if you wish to venture beyond the Old Town, offering connections to nearby towns and attractions. Taxis and rideshare are also an option. Renting a bike can be enjoyable for exploring the scenic waterfront and nearby areas.

From your ship, you’ll be able to see the full expanse of Kotor’s City Walls. The city walls offer a challenging but rewarding hike with spectacular views of Kotor Bay and the surrounding mountains. It’s best to start early to avoid the heat and crowds. At the top, you’ll also be able to explore the San Giovanni Fortress.
You can also climb the city walls at ground level for free. Just find a staircase and start exploring.
